Holistic Pet Tip:

Slippery Elm is my favorite herb for any gastrointestinal upset in dogs and cats. It is safe and soothing. It can be used for vomiting, diarrhea and constipation.

I use Slippery Elm for most cases of diarrhea, constipation and inflammatory bowel disease. You need to use the Slippery Elm Inner Bark Powder. When liquified, it will become very thick and gelatinous, which is soothing and antiinflammatory to the stomach and intestines. It is a soluble fiber which is why it helps with diarrhea. The gel is also lubricating to the intestines helping with constipation.

Slippery Elm is a very safe herb. I make up a thick tea for dogs and cats.

My Slippery Elm Recipe: Put 1 teaspoon of Slippery Elm Bark Powder in 1/2 cup of hot or boiling water. Stir and allow to cool. It will get very thick. You can store this in your refrigerator for a few days and give it in the food or directly in your pet’s mouth. For cats and dogs give 1/4 tsp per 10-15 lbs of body weight 2-3 times a day. You can double the dose in severe cases.

You can get Slippery Elm on my website here or on Amazon here.
